Plot
A young governess is hired to care for two children, Miles and Flora, at a remote country estate. At first, all seems well—until she begins to see ghostly figures: Peter Quint and Miss Jessel, former employees with a dark past. Convinced the children are under the spirits' influence, the governess becomes increasingly desperate to protect them. But as reality unravels, it’s unclear whether the threat is supernatural—or the product of her own imagination.
About me in this opera
This was my first opera production as a coach, and it was a truly wonderful experience working with such an incredible team—especially our phenomenal conductor, Arthur Fagen. Britten wrote many solo piano parts in this opera, including the opening prologue and the piano scene, which posed a real challenge. Stepping into Miles’s character and playing with simplicity and ease pushed me out of my comfort zone, but I’m proud to say I nailed it.
A huge thank-you to Professor Kevin Murphy for his guidance and support throughout this journey. I’ll never forget what I’ve learned from this production—or the excitement in the pit and encouragement from our audience.
